Mesothelioma and Exposure to Asbestos

We have already discussed that asbestos is the major causal factor of mesothelioma. This asbestos was used widely commercial purpose. During the Second World War the demand of asbestos increased manifold. In the 40s and 50s of last century, USA was greatly involved in asbestos industry. Millions of people at that time were working with such industry. While working such people were completely exposed to asbestos fine fibers. The exposure to asbestos in past years may start to manifest its harmful affect later. That is what happened in USA. Those people exposed to asbestos during the last century now suffer from mesothelioma. Very of question arises, why people were exposed to such a harmful material? Answer is very simple; at that time it was not known to the people that asbestos has such a harmful affect. Even to day asbestos has been banned, but still people working at shipyards, asbestos mines, products, which use asbestos as raw material also exposed to this malignant material. All the developed countries including USA have put many restrictions on the use of asbestos. At present the OSHA, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration of USA has defined the limit to the level of exposure to asbestos and set different guidelines. There are some standard practice and control that guides the industries, which use asbestos. Actually this is done to check the deadly disease mesothelioma.

In spite of the above-mentioned measures, the incidence of mesothelioma is on rise. The health experts also are apprehending its higher incidence in near future. If we control and make stringent laws for the industries that use asbestos at present, the incide3nce of such disease will decrease in future.
